Just Go With It for an Enjoyable Movie Experience
Monday, April 25th, 2011Have you ever been heartbroken? What was the effect on you? Pretty hard, I bet. Well, you’re not on your own. I was heartbroken once and it took me years to get over it and move on. It did me no good at all and caused me heartache for a long time afterwards but I tell myself that it may have made me stronger in the long run. I guess the effect of a shattered heart is different for all of us. But I am not here to talk about broken hearts alone.
The movie, Just Go With It, starts with a scene where Danny Maccabee (Adam Sandler) is heartbroken by his almost-wife. He overhears his bride-to-be talking about a fling with another man the night before their wedding. Yikes! The wedding doesn’t go through, of course. So with the ring in his hand and a quite different sob marriage story, Danny’s luck with women changes. Whenever he wants to be with a girl, he pretends to be unhappily married with a description of an unloving wife. He thinks that this way, he will never have his heart broken again.
Katherine Murphy (Jennifer Aniston), Danny’s office manager, is the only woman who sees through his tactics for chatting up girls. Everything is going well for Danny, who happens also to be a successful Los Angeles plastic surgeon, until he meets Palmer (Brooklyn Decker) a grade school teacher. He feels differently after spending the night with her; however, Palmer sees the ring the morning after and immediately thinks that he is married. He tries to win Palmer back but lies once more about the meaning of the ring. He says this time that he is divorcing from his wife because of her adultery.
With lies on lies, the scenario ends with Katherine and her kids pretending to be Danny’s ex-family. They all go to Hawaii to spend time together with the kids. This whole pretence is to impress Palmer. He succeeds in doing just that. In fact, Palmer wants to elope and get married there and then. But there’s a problem, with all the time he now spends with Katherine, he falls for her instead. And so does Katherine! Well, without spoiling the ending, you probably know where this is going. Palmer and Danny do not get married. But Danny and Katherine become inseparable. With a note that this time, he can be proud and be happy with his decision.
I just have to say that the movie is fun, amusing, touching and a joy to watch. Although there are exaggerations (to be expected from Adam Sandler movies), the movie is absorbing. Adam Sandler has never failed to make me laugh in any of his comedy movies. And I have been a fan of Jennifer Aniston since her F.R.I.E.N.D.S. days. So, for me, this movie is a great watch. I would most definitely recommend it to you.
Just Go With It was released in theaters last February 11, 2011. It’s a PG 13 movie, directed by Dennis Dugan. The film’s cast includes Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston, Nicole Kidman, Nick Swardson and Brooklyn Decker.
