Cats - The Musical (Ultimate Edition) Reviews

I loved the VHS version of Cats. As one of those people who saw it on Broadway first, the video is a great way to bring back memories. It also gives you the chance to see facial expressions up close, and rewind great parts :-)

Cast members who stick out (at least for me): John Partridge as Rum Tum Tugger (yummy! Good looking AND a great singer/dancer!); The fantastic Michael Gruber as Munkustrap (can't believe I missed him on Broadway..); Jacob Brent as The Magical Mr. Mistoffelees (this guy can DANCE!!), Rosemarie Ford as Bombalurina; Aeva Mae as Demeter; Elaine Paige as Grizabella; Drew Varley and Jo Gibb as Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer (and they WERE NOT DUBBED!! Those beautiful, amazing voices are their own!!); ok, the WHOLE CAST was great!!

One or two notes tho.. there are some PG-13 moments. Some er...interesting closeups (butt shots during Macavity.. and er.. crotch shots during Rum Tum Tugger), a little blooper where Tugger curses Griz (thankfully only mouthed!), and risque scene during the Jellicle Ball. If you have kids under say, 7 or 8, please watch it with them.

All in all, a great buy! I highly recommend it!!

I think that the video of Cats is the best thing in the entire world!!!!!And it's not just the songs and dancing but it's also the people!!!!Some of the best people are Jo Gibb(Rumpeteazer)Jo Bingham (Etcetera), Phyllida Crowley Smith (Victoria), Veerle Casteleyn (Jemima), Leah Sue Morland (Electra), Aeva May (Demeter), Rosemarie Ford (Bombalurina), Michael Gruber (Munkustrap), Jason Gardiner (Alonzo), Karl Morgan (Pouncival), John Partridge (Rum Tum Tugger),also alot of people don't know this but one of the regular cats a mostly white cat who dances with Victoria in the middle of the dancing section is Bryn Walters, who also plays Macavity, and I like him too. By the way, no offense to anybody, but I don't see why everyone likes Jacob Brent (Mistoffelees)!!! But I really think otherwise that T. S. Eliot, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Gillian Lynne are wonderful people. So I think everyone should buy this video because it's great for all ages.

This production of cats, although chopped, dubbed and edited, is still wonderful. I say that you should just look past the imperfections and focus on the main thing: entertainment. Veerle Casteleyn, with those big, innocent eyes of hers and angelic voice, makes for the sweetest, most touching Jemima. Jacob Brent as Mistofelees is wonderful, but fans often overlook two other talents: Fergus Logan and Karl Morgan, with their incredible acrobatics, make for astounding performances of Tumblebrutus and Pouncival. Aeva May, with her sense of drama, is quite a memorable Demeter, especially when you see her and Munkustrap nuzzling after the fight with Macavity. Jo Bingham is sooooo cute as Etcetera! Her perky personality and antics really catches your attention. Elaine Paige as Grizabella, excellent!!! Her portrayal of this ravaged old cat leaves not a single dry eye in the house. After the second half of the Jellicle Ball, when she is all alone, Grizabella does a solo dance(probably trying to get the attention of the other cats), but she gives up in the middle, knowing its hopeless. She looks so sad and so lonely standing there all alone at the end of her dance, knowing that they'll never accept her. A truely heartbreaking portrayal, although I do wish her voice was at full power, especially during Memory. A wonderful performance!
